01.04.2011 – Remember our info banners? Neatly styled box that appeared the first time you accessed our site. It provided information on the latest ChessBase products, but also on special events and services available on any given day. Unfortunately a number of visitors objected vigorously to the "accursed pop-ups”, which we have now abandoned, and restyled our page to match other news sites.

I don't care for their new design either ... They should take a clue from Chessvibes IMHO.

But hopefully they've really abandoned the popups... I have Adblock Plus but it doesn't stop them by default.

FWIW, the popups are not gone, and are a hard necessity. They also only appear once per day, per browser (AFAIK). My Firefox won't show them at all, but they do show in others such as Opera, IE, and Chrome. The thing is that they generate revenue, and the News page is a pure loss deal in terms of money spent. There is no ad revenue, yet money is spent on articles, editing, pictures (when we have to go through certain resources), etc.Mike S. wrote:gerold wrote:Albert Silver wrote:Dr.Wael Deeb wrote:01.04.2011

I wouldn't mind some Google text ads on the sides and on the bottom. For CB products, I'd insert ads like reports in between. That seems more convienient for the website visitors, and should be able to serve the same purpose.

Well, considering the option would be a popup to sell their own products, or a Google text ad to sell someone else's... I can tell you what I would choose in their shoes.Mike S. wrote:I wouldn't mind some Google text ads on the sides and on the bottom. For CB products, I'd insert ads like reports in between.
