Neither did Max Euwe and Alekhine didn't take him seriously, drank his way through the match and lost. Maybe Anand will take up drinking? :)

Anyway, whether they have a shot or not, one of them deserves the chance because he'll win the right to play for the title.
Alekhine drinking booze....No way

Yeah... good game.

Grischuk has fight i think, he just chooses his battlegrounds.
Not good enough to beat Anand in his prime, i agree ... but (perhaps) we'll see.

What would have been wrong with a double RR?

8 players - 14 games each 3 points for a win 1 for a draw...

I've asked myself the same question or at least a similar one....

RR is terrible for candidates tournament, because some players will cooperate. Matches are the only suitable way IMO, but they need to be longer with no-draw rules.

It is not going to rapid. Let's just say that Magnus Carlson's replacement didn't make it, and the player who was excluded from Tripoli's world championship is going to have his shot at the title. Still have to figure Anand will feast.

We can look forward to long, planned out, opening theory at least. :)
