TCEC announcement: End of project.

Post by Martin Thoresen »

I've had lots of great times with the project but now it's time for me to move on.

TCEC has taken up most of my spare time but now other things are
happening in my private life which makes me unable to continue the
project.

I want to thank everyone involved, most notably Paolo Casachi of pgn4web
and Matthias Gemuh of ChessGUI.

As this is a sudden but necessary change of path for me, I will close down
TCEC today which means stage 2a will not be finished nor will season 3.

Thank you to everyone following and I hope you all had a great time.

Best,
Martin

I wish you the best in your more important activities.

Matthias.
My engine was quite strong till I added knowledge to it.

I hope everything is ok with you in your private life. And I certainly hope we have not seen the last of you!

And I wish you well in all your endeavors.

Hi Martin, I really hope your health has nothing to do with this...everything else is bearable.

Hi Martin,

you created perhaps the most interesting tournament page I ever saw. You invested with the organization you made many time. Time is the most important topic for each one which have interest on official computer chess activities. Time and your own money. If I thinking on all the money and time I put in official activities in all the years computer chess ... oh my god? Can buy three big cars from all this money.

Thanks Martin for ...

1. Your time (most important)
2. Your great webpage with all the nice ideas you gave us too !!
3. For the interesting combination from all your own ideas !!

THANKS

Best
Frank

Thanks for your efforts and for many hours of computer chess entertainment!

Assuming your agreement in advance, I have installed an alternative PGN download for the Season 3/Stage 1 games. By that, the last completed stage with the 7 rounds swiss may be available a little longer, even in case the TCEC page goes offline.

http://remixshare.com/dl/ln0og/TCEC-S3St1-PGN.zip

(The PGN was "processed" through Fritz, and zipped from ~2 MB to ~0.5 MB.)

Among other things, I thought that tournament was remarkable for the "overperformance" of Shredder and to some extent, of Junior too. I would have liked to see one of them (or even both?!) in the 3rd Elite Match, even if the statistical probabilities for it may be small. I think it is possible that these old commercial engines have a certain quality which makes them benefit from such high-level conditions as yours at TCEC, while some terrible lack of knowledge other strong engines have (...shown), strike in 90+30 just as in 3+0.

Hope that all is okay Martin. Some things are much more important than hobbies. Thanks for your efforts both with CCRL and with your TCEC project.
