By the way: It makes really fun to see how the playing style of Houdini is changed when you alter the settings.

I am surprised that no personality has yet been posted that kicks Houdini 1.5a and Houdini 2.0 around.
Thank you for the tool. It is awesome. Unfortunately, I haven't found a stronger config up to now. But I will continue testing. :D

Yes,i agree, but in my limited testing,

seems even stronger.

Hi Matthias

I've noticed something with HoudiConfig. If i change Queen value to 1000 and save to .exe, when i load the .exe, it shows Queen value 1,000 (with a comma). Don't know what effect, if any, this might have. Just thought i should mention this.

Thank you for the tool, Matthias. I also tried the setting to which you refer. I used Chessbase/Shredder 8 and I hex-edited the modified Houdini 1.5a so that the GUI took it to be a different engine to the unedited Houdini 1.5a. I then played about 100 games of a head to head between the 2 versions.

Using the the Perfect v8.1 opening book, the modified version appeared to be substantially stronger than the unmodified version but when I changed to REMIS opening book, the original proved stronger by about an equal amount. The effect of the opening book isn’t clear; the turn around is not particularly unlikely to be just a statistical thing. If your results are likely to motivate me to do a retest, I would be grateful if you would post them. Either way, I might try Dave's settings next.

Keith.

The comma has no effect.
Old versions of HoudiConfig may output cryptic characters at end of parameter string when an exe file is loaded.
That is harmless. I simply forgot to null-terminate the parameter string. It is not used anywhere else.

Hi Keith,

I played only a 4-rounds RR with 8 engines at TC 2'+1" and did not keep results. :(
