Hi Larry,

it must be have a reason that Vas hold so many years the first place. If Vas used sources for Rybka 1 isn't this right. But what he do is to improved Rybka 1 to 4 with more as 250 ELO.

OK, Vas is good programmer!

All in all ...
I don't like Vas, bad information all the times to his own engines for the community. Reported bugs are not fixed (Rybka 3). He used a work by an other one. Never a clear statement to the IPP history, never he gave exactly proofs.

And the story goes in the second round with Houdini and on other programmer.

I wish me a new number 1.
Komodo or IvanHoe, Critter or Stockfish ...

But it should be never Houdini or Rybka.
The actual situation with Houdini isn't it was the most I know and have good contacts like.

And after all I know from Don or Tord, from Richard ... this programmer have much more talent as a person to copy a strong engines for adding only a view part of own material.

Best chess programmers for myself are:
Rudolf Huber (SOS), Fabian (Fruit) and Tord (Glaurung, Stockfish) also Don Daily and Richard Vida.

Rudolf Huber at first!

Best

I remember when Rybka and it's minions here and on other sites controlled the thoughts and speech of all....
I believe that Vas can make Rybka number 1 again, if he drops concerns about cloning. But if he holds back ideas for his rental project, it will be difficult for Rybka to be number 1. I think Vas is the best chess programmer of all, but not by so much as to give this handicap to the rest. It would be like Carlsen trying to give pawn and move to the Elite.
I would like to see it.

It would be fun to have Komodo, Rybka, Stockfish, Critter, and Houdini to be neck and neck in the standings. As a tester I would love it....

We could argue all day and night about the standings. :)

I certainly didn't like Bobby Fischer, but he was one hell of a chess player! If you are talking about how good someone is at something, it's best to disregard personal feelings about him. Vas may have done some things people don't like, but his achievements in computer chess are without parallel in my opinion. The Fruit business is unfortunate, but I don't think using Fruit eval terms did more than save Vas some months of development time. His search ideas revolutionized computer chess.

I didn't like Bobby Fischer for so many reasons too.

In CSS Forum a big thread is available to a Fischer Doku, runs start of this months in TV (channel ARTE).

In my opinion best chess player in chess history is Ivantschuk, perhaps Gulko for some years. Chess player I like are Seirawan, Anand, Miles and Shirov :-) and ... Quisinsky :-)

Of course Houdini. Robert Houdart seems to be the most talented person ever put hands on computer chess software :)

He says: "Ich bin Schachgroßmeister!", meaning since he is a grandmaster in chess his opponent should finally resign the game.
