I will go with Critter. Richard has been working pretty study on it and it is improving. Critter 1.4 looks to be very close to Houdini 2 now.MM wrote:Hi, which engine do you think it will be the #1 engine at the end of 2012?

Rybka most likely should be. I think Vas is going to put out a strong version to top everyone else by a decent margin. This would make his cluster version seem even stronger and will make him some money.MM wrote:Hi, which engine do you think it will be the #1 engine at the end of 2012?

Hi,
thanks for contribution.
I'm in trouble to have an opinion, many engines could sit at the top next year, but it depends by several factors...if just i was forced to bet something, i would bet on Houdini. Houdart is very skilled.
Best Regards

Depends on how you define #1?!MM wrote:Hi, which engine do you think it will be the #1 engine at the end of 2012?

1. Most plagarized?
2. Highest ELO?
3. Price?
4. Availability?
5. Compatibility with GUI's?
6. Etc...
The poll question is to vague, thus the results are meaningless.
Cordially,
Sean

Only 6 votes for Rybka.
I remember when Rybka and it's minions here and on other sites controlled the thoughts and speech of all....

Re: #1 engine in 2012
i read that Vas said that a Rybka 5 beta should start testing at early 2012. This could mean that it will start in autumn 2012 (lol) but anyway, considering that is true, Rybka 5 could be ready, at best, around may-june 2012 (i don't think so soon anyway) and it will have to come back around 60 points to Houdini.Terry McCracken wrote:Rybka is going down and so is Houdini.mwyoung wrote:Only 6 votes for Rybka.

Considering that probably Houdart, Vida and Komodo's team will work for something better and will release something not far from this date, Rybka should come back around 80/100 points. Mission impossible?

I believe that Vas can make Rybka number 1 again, if he drops concerns about cloning. But if he holds back ideas for his rental project, it will be difficult for Rybka to be number 1. I think Vas is the best chess programmer of all, but not by so much as to give this handicap to the rest. It would be like Carlsen trying to give pawn and move to the Elite.mwyoung wrote:Only 6 votes for Rybka.
