I do not know the engine internals, but I have received some information suggesting that the evaluation used an auto-learning mechanism to emulate that of other strong engines including closed-source ones, as published here: http://www.cs.biu.ac.il/~koppel/papers/ ... -final.pdf. If so this is an interesting twist on the "non-originality" problem, since this one doesn't have to rely on code copying.
