Yes, no-one much bothers trying to beat engines now. I tried once or twice but got creamed in about 15 moves.

Yep, the new "beat the machine" concept is "not to get humiliated in the first 20 moves". (Draws are for world champions :) )

I do....and it boosts my play even further when playing the humans....

I just hope soon to have more free time to play rated human tournaments....

heehee, That was Roman(GM) Roman Dzindzichashvili. He was involved in running Chessnet. We had a nice GM vs. (C) tournament there around 12-13 years ago.

This is a very old video and a LOT of things have changed since then. I did use the f2 and f4 line to also beat computers a long time ago, but this is simply not possible anymore. The huge improvement in software (probably more than 500 ELO) combined with an equally huge improvement in hardware (another several hundred ELO), combine to make the good old days just that ... the good old days. I actually had some success with even the Iphone, but with the new 4Gs I can easily see that things have become almost impossible even on that platform. The damn things are simply too strong and I just wish they had a one button tap for "new game" to make life a little easier!
