Does the updated version of Chess Studio on the iPad allow analysis of a game with Stockfish 7 running at full strength? The Lite version which I downloaded has the ability to set the strength of Stockfish, but it is limited to 2500 ELO and below. I'm not that good, but for analysis, I'd like a 3000+ Stockfish 7 to be doing the analysis, not a 2500 Stockfish.kinderchocolate wrote:Guys. There will be a new version of Chess Studio from Giordano Vicoli that has Stockfish 7 and NPS. His existing app is running the ancient version 2.
I can build a new beta version of SmallFish for NPS. I will be able to send you a new version via email. Please check me a message or email if you like it.
Going further, I can build it as an easter-egg feature. For example, the current version is able to connect to external USB if the name of the user matches "Bryan Whitby". I can do the same for anyone who is "NPS".

It used to work, but I haven't tested it for a while. If you still want it, please send me an email and I'll try to fix it.mephisto wrote:Ted
The latest version doesn't work with a USB board.
You can make your first move on the board and it is replayed on the iPad but Stockfish doesn't respond, in fact the app freezes.

I don't know the details. I know he's going to do it because he sent me a message for technical advice. But if you need serious analysis, you shouldn't use Chess Studio, it's definitely not the best analysis tool. At the source-code level, the author has made tons of critical errors related to chess engines.royb wrote:Does the updated version of Chess Studio on the iPad allow analysis of a game with Stockfish 7 running at full strength? Ted,
Is there a place where we can download the Smallfish source code, considering it is open source?

Asim

Re: benchmark new smartphones:
New LG g5 is with the 820 Snapdragon. Be Aware... For chess the 820 is a lousy CPU. Has only 4 cores and gets maybe around 1650 nps.
Not much if you compare this e.g. With the lg G3 result.
Qualcomm sucks for chess. Better by a non 820 phone.

1650k nps seems to be not bad for me though
But in general - yeah - Qualcomm is not known to perform very well with chess engines

Re: benchmark new smartphones:
Yes But soon result goes down due to heat problems.
Gets around 13xx after 2'.
I would say related with the exynos Samsung s7 and even the cheap Kirin Huawei p9 this is a lousy result.
The phone looks like a disappointment to me. It's aluminum with plastic cover around, it has changeable battery but only 2800 where s7 has 3000.
The camera is IMO not better then the lg G4 camera. And the sound is also not good. Neither stereo nor better then that mono of the Huawei p9.
IMO one should better wait for the one plus 3 or Htc 10 or the new moto X 2016 that is the pipeline.
Or the Zuk z2 (pro). Lg has a modular phone but instead using it for a cool stereo sound module, the have a only 2 expensive modules.
