The problem is not $0.99.
There's no opening book, the GUI doesn't understand 3-fold repetition (as I wrote elsewhere).
So basically you (Don and Larry) allowed Komodo for iOS to ship with a total .... GUI and the guys even use it to promote their own other games, which is really funny because it has been obviously rushed and it lacks the quality of even mediocre casual chess app. It seems that you don't care at all. Of course you were busy with Komodo 5, ok. But Chess Legends is a bad joke. World #2 engine flushed down the toilet. I hope to see an update soon because this is an insult to Komodo.

I am listening. Just wait another week and you shall see a new app with variations and things you really want.
Thanks, let us know when you make the release.

In my country there is a saying, perhaps the same in many countries: "cheap things are lot expensive at last".

In this case, not even at last...

Fern

LOL, of course it's not about the money Fern, I have lots of it!
It's about quality and the Komodo name being attached to garbage.
I would imagine Sean does not want his money back, but he is addressing the fact the software is broken. This app was a let down to iOS users, IMHO.

I remember the days chess programs were sold for $199,99.

Did you also complain back then?

I remember those days, buying programs from PBM International Inc, and talking with the guy who ran it for hours on the phone.

By the way:
- no engine output (variations/valuation)
- time level bug (try to play a 61min game p.a. - no effect of longer time controls for the engine)
- annoying check-popup

the ipad is not for power users. its more for children and for fun.

why do you need variations or search info on a toyish hardware ?

buy an android device. install CHESS by aart bik and run komodo as
UCI engine with all stuff a power user needs.
What seems like a fairy tale today may be reality tomorrow.
Here we have a fairy tale of the day after tomorrow....

Well the check popup is a novelty just to annoy the user even more I guess.

Although my german became a bit rusty:
"Scheinbar liegt die App auf der Höhe des insoweit vorbildlichen tChess"
Not even close. Comparing Chess Legends to t-Chess would be an insult to Tom Kerrigan and his app :)

You obviously fail to understand that this is due to OS restrictions, it has nothing to do with the hardware itself.
You can't execute code from data sections (therefore JIT is impossible) and you can't spawn processes. These are security measurements.
Once these restrictions are gone, you will see UCI/WB engines on iOS devices.
Plain and simple. Perhaps even a power user such as yourself can understand this.

The problem seems clearly the 0.99$ based on the title of this thread
and I do not understand how a bad gui for 0.99$ can hurt komodo's sales
even if there is no update.

I see no reason to expect a good gui for 0.99$(My opinion is that if you pay that price then everything better than something bad is a bonus) and this thread is the first time that I read about the bad gui for komodo.
