Looking for Free to use or Public Domain Chess Images

Post by jshriver »

Building a new chess site (rather part of the OICS project) and looking for images to use for pieces and board.

I could try creating my own via gimp, but my drawing skills aren't very good :) Know there are a lot of them out there on the web, but since I plan to use this for a website looking for something I can use without fear of being sued later.

Really like the ones used on lichess.org, but not sure about the (C).

Thanks in advance!
-Josh

Hope if this project comes to fruition it'll be something you all will enjoy. Plus it's a good exercise for me to learn HTML5, Javascript, and CSS.

I ended up using the ones from wikipedia (looks the same as lichess). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_piece. They are licensed under the creative commons.

If you want a sprite sheet, feel free to use the one at http://forwardcoding.com/projects/ajaxc ... prites.png.

Lists many sites, I prefer the look of the Alpha set.
