Critter-1.6a (8 threads, 4 GB Hash and searchmoves h5h4) sees mate in ≤ 15, but not mate in ≤ 14.

Code: Select all

23/54 10:12 8221M 13415K +M15 Rh4 Rf4 Rxf4 exf4+ Kxf4 Ba8 Qf1+ Ne1 Qxe1+ Kc2 Qxb4 Rd8 Qa4+ Kd3 Qb5+ Kd2 Qa5+ Kc2 Qxd8 Bg2 Qa5 Kb3 Qb5+ Kc2 Ke3 Bf1 Qa4+ Kb1 Qd1#
With a normal search, Critter finds mate in ≤ 15 starting with g2:

Code: Select all

30/64 10:23 8429M 13524K +M15 g2 Bxg2 Qxg2 Rd1 Rh2 Rc7 Qe2 Rc5+ Kh6 Rg1 Qd3 Re1 Rd2 Rh1+ Kg7 Rc7+ Kf6 Rc6+ Ke5 Rc5+ Kd6 Rc6+ Kxc6 b5+ Kd6 Rc1 Rd1 Rxd1 Qxd1#
Anyone confirm mate in ≤ 14?

OK, I don't believe you!:D Several initial moves, including Rh4, lead to mate in ≤ 15. Please provide a mate in ≤ 14.

According to Chest it is NOT a mate in 12. My estimate is that to check mate in 13 will take more than a day and mate in 14 will take nearly two weeks so I don't bother.

I have made an updated version of Chest 3.19 which I have called 3.19b with all the fixes on Heiner Maxen's homepage and compiled it for 32 and 64-bit execution, so if anybody is interested tell me.

Critter thinks that 54. Be4-b7 is weaker than 54. Be4-a8. The latter move avoids mate for one more move. So it seems that Deep Junior's evaluation is wrong.

But be aware that this is not the WinChest version (with all the additional features and special parameters), so you can't use this new(?) Chest in ChestUCI.
