Hi Martin,

I'm very glad you're running TCEC again, so any line-up is going to be exciting, I'm certain. If I could make a couple of friendly suggestions for inclusion in the engine line-up, I'd mention Spark 1.0 (a fine tactical engine) rated around 3000 CCRL, and Thinker 5.4D (Inert or Passive versions are suitable against computer opposition), rated above 2900, which plays some of the most interesting computer chess I've ever seen.

I know these engines haven't been updated in over 1 year, but they're sure to provide entertaining games, and are readily available for free download, both having MP support, to boot. So, if the objective is the enjoyment of great chess, then their inclusion can easily be justified.

Even if you decide against it, it is your prerogative as organizer, of course. Most of us are really thankful you are back online :-)

Kind regards,
Carl

Hi Carl,

Actually someone asked me in the TCEC chat about Spark. My answer is that it's not included because of "criteria:age". It hasn't been updated since December 2010. I emailed Allard a week ago or so and asked if he has a newer version he wants me to include, but he hasn't replied. If you manage to get a hold of him somehow please tell him I'd be more than happy to include any newer version.

Thinker is one of my favorite engines, but it doesn't display any output data last time I checked. And 5.4D is even older than Spark, it hasn't been updated since December 2009.

With 32 engines there's only so many I can include. Believe me, I'd like to include them all but obviously that's not going to happen.

Hope to see you around when it starts! :)

Best,
Martin

Thanks Julien, hope to see you there! :)
You bet I will! :) And I'm also working hard so one day my engine will compete in such tournaments/Ratings lists! :)

Is there a way to download the whole PGNs, instead of a game by game view?

Yes, I have posted it in the News section. :)

Also, I would love to include Predateur one day, it might need some more ELO first though. :)

Perfectly understandable :)

No idea what Allard is up to these days, unfortunately.

As for Thinker, if you run it as a Winboard engine, it should display a short line of analysis + its eval, once it makes its move. Also, it runs a bit faster in its native WB mode.

Too bad, it hasn't been updated for so long. That's one engine I would gladly have purchased if it was commercial.

I still hope you can find room for it eventually, someday, somehow. Looking forward to the games :D

CL

Old TCEC Seasons 1...3: In addition to the PGN, I have created two versions of the collection in CBH format, for Fritz/CB.:

http://remixshare.com/dl/1nt0q/Old_TCEC_enginedata.cbv = with engine infos, 3,75 MB
http://remixshare.com/dl/hc5oc/Old_TCEC ... nedata.cbv = uncommented, 238 KB

585 games each.

WOW great site and tournament! Only problem is we already know who will be winner. But of course it's interesting who is second - I has no guess :) .
