Considering the splendid GUi with which is today associated
Considering the database accesses which makes possible
Considering his result in Yokohama with equal and normal hardware and not with just an array of computers worthy of NASA
Considering his style of play
Considering the service Mark U. provides
Considering the honesty with which this programmer prepares his stuff as he has done along years.
Considering ALL that it is difficult to find another better program for a chess player.
Perhaps there is one or two stronger in terms of comp Vs comp games.
Perhaps there is some other equally interesting in his style, as Junior.
Perhaps Chessbase has a prettier and funnier GUI.
Perhaps.
But Hiarcs has everything in just one package.
And I say this as a guy that play lot more dedicated units than engines. Even so, I still can recognize a bargain when I see one.
Just the truth regards

Re: About Hiarcs: Taking all into account...
I've NEVER managed to complete a game with my hiarcs 3 full bundle.
It gets half frozen and sluggish and all kinds of problems happen, and it doesn't agree to take back moves and continue without resetting the everything (and then it is much easier to start a new game or just exit the program), but makes me all kinds of punishments because of it, and it goes over its time limits, something which older programs NEVER did. And when it finishes its clock time, there is no way that i know of that it will then continue the game.
And it also ruins my whole computer function even though i have 8 GB of local memory.
So with all its wonderful qualities, it's like chasing after something that i will never be able to enjoy and like i am being told to accept that fact and stop crying over spilt milk.
And that is my personal review of Hiarcs 14 +
(unless someone can give me a magic button to press to correct it all, which looks like a wild imagination to me).

Weird...which is your OS?
I have no problems in Windows 7.
Perhaps -but you surely did- you should re install.
As far as I know, Mark Uniacke answer every problem you can have.

If Mark answers directly, then this sounds like the easiest way it will get good. Thanks for suggestion. (i did recieve other suggestions from time to time, but was afraid to get into it unless i had alot of spare hours in front of me, plus money for a technician in case something went wrong).fern wrote:Weird...which is your OS?

Ah, the silver medal winner who judged the gold medal winner and became world champion? You mean that guy? Solly, I have nothing but contempt for people doing such things. The right thing was not to vote.fern wrote:Considering the splendid GUi with which is today associated

Re: About Hiarcs: Taking all into account...
It keeps getting better and better and the best part is the integration of new important features like Eng-Eng matches that was a huge leap. I'd say that he was very kind to answer to all my questions at the Hiarcs forum.
Compare that with CB support and you get the pic.
I am awaiting some new features but the biggest leap will be when he implements an online play feature that will be far friendlier than Playchess... minus 'The Hol'.
Maybe a feature to play across internet, among friends or students?
I know that its a long road ahead for that yet, but maybe, just maybe...

Maybe I'm being impatient, but he's still not opened the private message I sent him at the Hiarcs forum a month ago, and hasn't replied to an email I sent either.Mithu wrote:.......I'd say that he was very kind to answer to all my questions at the Hiarcs forum........
Starting to wonder if I've said or done something terribly wrong.

Each to his own. I didn't buy the last Hiarcs.
Komodo, or Houdini or Rybka with Aquarium are much better choices in my opinion. Or save your money and stick to Stockfish, Critter and the free GUI and database managers that are out there.
