I imagine it will come with a hefty price tag.

what do you anticipate the processor advantages will be for chess players?

There will be a lot of factors so I will not attempt to say what the speed up will be but it will be a super platform to work with.ouachita wrote:what do you anticipate the processor advantages will be for chess players?

Yes, 8 cores mean 16(!!) independent threads!Terry McCracken wrote:There will be a lot of factors so I will not attempt to say what the speed up will be but it will be a super platform to work with.ouachita wrote:what do you anticipate the processor advantages will be for chess players?
Man, that's a lot of computational firepower.

Engines work best without hyperthreading, so you are back down to eightnotyetagm wrote:Yes, 8 cores mean 16(!!) independent threads!Terry McCracken wrote:There will be a lot of factors so I will not attempt to say what the speed up will be but it will be a super platform to work with.ouachita wrote:what do you anticipate the processor advantages will be for chess players?

I will be like most, waiting for an affordable price. Intel has been a little slow with releasing an eight true core chip likely due to the economic downturn prior 2013. They have up to 20 core in the server market but expensive.ouachita wrote:but realistically for most of us, 2015?

As long as it isn't as expensive as the ridiculously priced Server chips, who carez about the price ?Terry McCracken wrote:I will be like most, waiting for an affordable price. About time; sick of my 6-core 3930k.
No economic recession here in India, judging from the way people spend money here...maybe thanks to the recession in the West !
