Hi All,
I have been a member of Playchess.com and ICC for several years and they have about 2500 players online at a time. I recently joined Chess.com and they have around 12,000 players online at a time!!
Does anyone know why there is such a huge difference?
I suspect that it is because the GUI is html friendly, which players are use to surfing the Internet!?
Thanks
Sean

1. Its free
2. you dont need an interface
3. its the first thing that comes up when you search chess
Not surprising they have more players.

Hi, chess.com is a pay site unless you want to play as a guest. I think they have an agreement with Facebook too, that might be drawing more traffic!JManion wrote:1. Its free

You can play for free, rating games and more. Just you need to register, witch is free.Sean Evans wrote:Hi, chess.com is a pay site unless you want to play as a guest. I think they have an agreement with Facebook too, that might be drawing more traffic!JManion wrote:1. Its free

You need a premium account for extra stuff, remove adds, training courses, etc.

That would help explain the strange strength differences for players in the same ELO rangeIGarcia wrote:You can play for free, rating games and more. Yes is strange... Seems there is many players from different skill all in close interval. Is something I feel it happens in chess sites where 1200 is the initial Elo. In other places, for ex. chesscube, where new players starts at 1500 seems are more spread.
Add the cheating factor, even on places with anti-cheat systems, and you are lost on the meaning of Elo. You don't have a clue who are you playing against.
The very simple thing to do is to don't care about online ratings.
Very nice place simplechess!
Regards.

Hi, I am noticing quite a few players from the Middle East and third-world countries like Nigeria. Their Internet connections are poor-quality and they lag
Why so many on Chess.com?
Oh, is there a way to block non-paying customers from accepting my SEEKS?
Thanks,
Sean

As far i know, there is no option to do that. The problem with lag has to be a problem for them...Sean Evans wrote:Hi, I am noticing quite a few players from the Middle East and third-world countries like Nigeria. Their Internet connections are poor-quality and they lag
