Engine to analyze the endgame

Post by Kempelen »

I have a few positions I would like to analyze with a computer. What engine excels in this game phase and is good to analyze?
thanks.

Unless you are prohibited from doing so, why not post the positions? Then you are likely to receive analyses that you could not easily do yourself.

All the positions from the book GMRAM, which are mostly endgames. it has no solutions do it is advisable to look them at books. Before I would like to play them with an engine that «knows what to do» and analyze before going to books.

I have never found an engine, that was exceptionally stronger in the endgame.
Once i was told, that shredder is especially strong in the endgame, but after hours of work i could not verify that claim.
I believe that the strongest engine is strongest in the endgame too.
My recommendation for serious chess works:
--Scan down the rating list and pick the first engine you like. I would pick stockfish. The big engines are qualitatively far more advanced, than the pure elo number can express.
--Install essential table bases, that can make a significant difference in quality sometimes.
--For conducting your own analyis, good GUI support is almost as important as the chess engine itself. I recommened Scidb currently. E.g. Chessbase would be even better, but is not free.
--Use Multi pv mode during analysing, ignore the numbers and read out the given lines. Try your own ideas, to see how there are refuted.

Happy analyzing :)
