50th move Bluff by Stockfish 5?

Post by Eraserheads » Thu Aug 07, 2014 11:46 am

I have been manually entering the moves of White (HIARCS14) vs Black (Stockfish5, Shredder 4 interface).
The game was a Sicilian Keres Attack, and for a long time it seemed White had the upper hand, but eventually it fizzled out into a draw.

Now on Stockfish's 50th no-captures-made move (50th move draw rules now apply), Stockfish hanged a piece (...Bg5??). This is the last move of the game...but since it is the 50th move without performing any captures, the game is drawn. But does stockfish have to play something funny like that?

The Game:

it probably picked any legal move that didn't involve a capture randomly and claimed a draw. i would assume most engines with a draw feature would still pick the best move. it wouldn't be necessary though.

by the time i get there,i'll be there.

I see this on occasion. The key point being which move is searched first that leads to a 50 move rule draw. And any non-capture / non-pawn-move move will do the trick, whether it looks moronic or not. :)
