Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first
place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you
are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it.

HA !
Komodo 8 gets the correct Rxf5 in one second FLAT on my (rather superb ! ) computer ! Beat THAT !
Stockfish finds it very late...another weakness discovered in the otherwise formidable Stockfish !
Actually, for a long time Stockfish recommends the losing 1. Kg2...HAHHAHA
What was so hard about it anyway, except maybe for BLIND-FISH !

I noticed that most of the my programs found Rxf5 rather quickly whereas SF is not the case. You can't have it all.

On my comp the old Vitruvius 1.0 H jumps on Rxf5 at depth 15.

Vitruvius 1.11_HEM on my i7 finds it pretty much in 1 sec. or less. I like that program by the way. I use it to analyze my human games sometimes.noctiferus wrote:On my comp the old Vitruvius 1.0 H jumps on Rxf5 at depth 15.

me too. I find his analysis quite reliable.

I saw one GM's comment,"That it was too conservative" which I do not agree with. I think it's very positional (speculative sometimes) and solid all the way around. I noticed it rips throiugh the plys fast too.noctiferus wrote:"I use it to analyze"

Agreed.
I remember that I saw somewhere that Roberto Munter stopped this project, to go on with Deep Saros.
Pity, if I remember correctly.

Re: Hard testposition from master Om
Even without looking at the position I guessed it would either be: Rook sac, Queen sac, or subtle Queen move.
SF is really good about finding minor piece sacrifices but tends to struggle with major pieces.
I doubt Rxf5 is really the problem here, but rather Qxh6+ in the followup. I've tried various search tweaks to find these types of moves. And I have even had some success but always with the downside of lowering the overall playing strength.
