The one next to her also won. So the whole thing was meaningless.

I do not know what are the rules of the competition.
It is possible that they played with a rule that allow take back as long as you do not press the chess clock.

I wonder what was the time control of the games.

I think she ran out of time.

Not to me.

I think that she realized it immidiately but did not react immediately.
People usually should be quiet when they play chess and she know it

Note that the GM could tell her that it is an illegal move when she promoted a pawn to the last rank without replacing it by a queen and get additional time on the clock or even win the game directly by illegal move of the opponent(dependent on the rules of the competition).

And HE? the GM, he didn't really want her to realize she had won! That was funny!
According to The Telegraph she won on time in a winning position. When some old guy reaches out to shake your hand you shake, and then you figure out why.
Deasil is the right way to go.

Uri
But he had the commonsense and decency not to do so. Good for him.

He just let her win it's totally obvious even though the least obvious of all other boards, and he probably chose the youngest girl on purpose which is very nice of him.

I wasn't speaking about what the rules were. I was commenting that f5 seems like it would have made him win the game.

Unless his aim was to let her win, as Milos thinks?

Of course he let her win. She will remember this game forever. :)

I don't think so. I mean, it was a simultaneous exhibition against a number of young girls, so he probably had less time than usual in a simul; and the rules were relaxed. But I think young Lykke-Merlot earned her victory.
