Hakkapeliitta (when it goes SMP).
It's already a world beater, and rising like a skyrocket.

Gull could be #1, but I think that the author has lost interest. There is a lot less activity lately.

Similarly for Senpai. But Fabian said he did not want to spend a lot of time tuning it.

Texel and Protector also have an outside shot.

Of course, the betting favorites would be Stockfish and Komodo.

If Robert Houdart is going to wait until he is 50 Elo clear of Stockfish, then it will never release, because Stockfish is a moving target.

Shredder was impressive earlier on. How about Jonny? Was it only puter power to blame? :)

Still, unless the fish team can come up with some stunts, Komodo seems even odds.

Hi, who programmed Fire 5? Is there a website for it? I have not heard about it.

Thank you,

Sean

Since Rybka 5 is now Fritz 15, I'll go with that.

"Fire, (Firebird, Fire xTreme)
an UCI compliant chess engine by Norman Schmidt [1], until version 3.0 derived from IvanHoe and the Ippolit series of programs with some help of Milos Stanisavljevic. Initially called Firebird, and later renamed to Fire due to a trademark naming conflict [2], it was released as open source, Fire licensed under the GNU GPL. The sources were later closed with Windows executables available for download for recent Intel processors [3]. Fire features magic bitboards, it can be configured with more than 70 UCI options, and applies a SMP parallel search."

I think shredder 13 will be a milestone release. Stefan has completely rewritten the engine to use magic bitboards, and had a new novel smp implementation. I think it could compete for the #1 slot again.

Is there any release date on Shredder?

Their website seems to imply that S12 is the WC program, which is pretty misleading.

Komodo and Stockfish are obvious bets. Shredder and Fritz could both easily compete for the number one spot as well. Both Alfil and Andscacs have made very fast progress recently so they have a small chance too.
