AMD's Next-Gen Ryzen CPU Benchmarked Against Intel's Core i7-7700K Processor, AMD Scores Big
Fritz Chess Benchmark test:

Next, comes the Fritz Chess benchmark tests, where AMD scores a relative score of 36.86 points and 17693 Kilo Nodes per second. Comparing the AMD results to the Intel Core i7-7700K which scores 35.52 points and 17,049, and the Core i7-6950X with 24,000 points.

I will be interested to see what kind of server processors they produce on this architecture. There are rumors of a 32-core chip (http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-naples-32-c ... rks-leaked).

Considering that now 7 years old 6 core AMD Phenom II X6 1100 @3.8GHz scores 14000nps at Fritz Chess benchmark, 8 core Ryzen result really doesn't look that impressive...

Leaving clock speed aside, it looks like the new AMD chip gets the roughly the same performance as the i7-7700K on eight cores as opposed to four for the Intel chip. Not impressive, is it?

I understand that price may change that calculation, but anyone dreaming of building a super chess computer on the cheap with the AMD chips might want to rethink it.

Besides that, AFAIK it was on 16 threads on Fritz benchmark, which doesn't help much in chess. On 8 threads, it is probably exactly that 14,000 of Phenom II X6.

I have heard that a quantum computer will be created in the next few years. The speed is 2 to 200th power calculations per second, which is more atoms in the universe.

When will the trickle down effect of quantum come to PCs?

I got exactly that CPU in my system, albeit at regular 3.3 GHz where it reports 10800. Even assuming linear frequency/nps scaling, that still would only yield 12400 nps.

Your system seems to be a bit slower, you should see around 11500.
