Tricky game in the B vs N ending, but another white win after a complicated ending. Played on a Core i5 Notebook, 1 CPU, game in 60.

lyudmil --

i haven't analyzed your line (in reply to me), though it seems andreas has & surely done a much better job of it than i could. i do want to say i think you vastly overestimate the number of people 'against' you. your response to michael is an example of this; he wasn't pouncing on YOU but rather examining the position (/positions); his results didn't back your claim up, but so far, the fact remains that NO ONE CAN. from my own experience, i'm quite certain this isn't the outcome of conspiracy but rather honest examination. i am perfectly happy with either result (won for white or drawn); i have zero pride on the line & as far as i'm concerned it's just an exercise.

again, i want to apologize for perhaps setting the tone that might lead you to believe there is a personal vendetta against you, but at the same time, your tone was arrogant & dismissive & your claims were frankly ridiculous. (you said yourself you'd analyzed the position for five minutes & a3 was 'simply bad'; when peter svidler spends hours with a machine & concludes it was a brilliant move -- which is NOT the same as saying it outright wins -- this is absolutely preposterous, & i don't apologize for saying that much)

what i see as the core issue you're having (the multiplicity of options) is one i, & i think everyone else share. it seems we're now at this position per jeroen:

[d]1n3k2/5pp1/2p1p2p/2P5/3P4/4P3/3B1PPP/6K1 w - -

25. Nxc8 Rxc8 26. Rxb7 Rb8 27. Rxb8+ Nxb8 *[/pgn]

but i'm not certain that's 'agreed'; it seems to be his belief that its blacks best try. since it seems you two have a history you might doubt his integrity but contrary to your claims (& the obvious fact that both of you vehemently disagree about the probable outcome), i think it's worthwhile to note that he is attempting to find a DRAW, & has evinced more analysis, & i would guess devoted more time as well, than anyone in this thread including yourself.

having skimmed the previous posts, from the previous 'anchor' position, andreas has said after 29. Bf4 f5 30. exf5 exf5 31. Bd6 white wins:

[d]r2k4/1R1n2p1/2pB3p/2P2p2/3P4/8/5PPP/5K2 b - -

and thirdly, you seem to have arrived at a much later position in your last post but after two days away i'll have to do more than skim to find its root.

i haven't analyzed your line (in reply to me), though it seems andreas has & surely done a much better job of it than i could. i do want to say i think you vastly overestimate the number of people 'against' you. your response to michael is an example of this; he wasn't pouncing on YOU but rather examining the position (/positions); his results didn't back your claim up, but so far, the fact remains that NO ONE CAN. from my own experience, i'm quite certain this isn't the outcome of conspiracy but rather honest examination. i am perfectly happy with either result (won for white or drawn); i have zero pride on the line & as far as i'm concerned it's just an exercise.

again, i want to apologize for perhaps setting the tone that might lead you to believe there is a personal vendetta against you, but at the same time, your tone was arrogant & dismissive & your claims were frankly ridiculous.

[d]1n3k2/5pp1/2p1p2p/2P5/3P4/4P3/3B1PPP/6K1 w - -

but i'm not certain that's 'agreed'; it seems to be his belief that its blacks best try. since it seems you two have a history you might doubt his integrity but contrary to your claims (& the obvious fact that both of you vehemently disagree about the probable outcome), i think it's worthwhile to note that he is attempting to find a DRAW, & has evinced more analysis, & i would guess devoted more time as well, than anyone in this thread including yourself.

having skimmed the previous posts, from the previous 'anchor' position, andreas has said after 29. Bf4 f5 30. exf5 exf5 31. Bd6 white wins:

[d]r2k4/1R1n2p1/2pB3p/2P2p2/3P4/8/5PPP/5K2 b - -

and thirdly, you seem to have arrived at a much later position in your last post but after two days away i'll have to do more than skim to find its root.
will be briefly back, for people not to say I have abandoned the forum, as well as my beliefs.

I am perfectly fine, john, please believe me, it is not possible to throw me off balance with such posts.

what concerns you, you are one of the persons whose feedback and constant concern with chess positions I appreciate the most.

really, I do not know what I would have been doing without you. :)

the rook exchange is doubtless the best balck continuation, no need to choose more complex line, when you can easily draw in a simple one.

I simply missed at first that black can trade rooks because of the mate threat on the first rank.

so, the main position to analyse, is after Rb8 Nb8.

This time, I spent couple of hours analysing every single possible meaningful continuation, and, as expected there is draw everywhere.

absoluetly everywhere. I checked and rechecked this, in at least 10 different continuations.

however, black should proceed with a very stringent plan: when playing f5, the f5 pawn should be supported by a pawn on g6, to capture gf5 after ef5, otherwise black loses.

this is the simple relevant continuation repeating in almost all lines, but it perfectly holds, no doubt Carlsen would have found it imediately, as I myself pick it on the spot as only alternative.

every other possible configuration, as said, might be losing at some point, but engines do not quite get that, choosing other moves.

again, this is position engines do not understand, almost all of their moves are wrong, as only possible way to draw is going for a fortress.

I do not know where you dug that last position from, with the bishop on d6 and f5 pawn.

this was suggestion, but for the line with rooks still on, you are mixing something up.

as said, in the simple one-piece endgame, black should first move g6, before pushing f5.

Oh my god f4?? An unprovoked commital pawn move that early? Putting the pawn on the same color as the bishop? Locking the center in an bishop vs. knight endgame. Lyudmil, I am happy that you reveal your true chess strength here time after time.
Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote: both Sf and Komodo seem to like that
False. Neither Komodo nor Stockfish on my System prefer f4. Maybe your computer is very slow??
Lyudmil Tsvetkov wrote: again, why should I admit I am wrong, when I am obviously right?
If you want to seriously analyze this ending you have to be very careful in making pawn moves, especially h4 or f4 (same color as bishop) - better only make them if your are absolutely sure that the resulting position is winning (eval > 5 and take a look at the end of PV as there are some +4 fortresses in this position). But it is winning for white - are you up for another challenge Lyudmil?
f4, that is how engines play.

but, choosing any different line changes absolutely nothing, black has always a very simple drawing plan, involving g7-g6(to support the f5 thrust, so that after ef5 black takes with the g pawn, gf5, retaining the bind upon the d5 square), followed by f7-f5.

that might be about the only drawing plan, engines completely miss, but fully sufficient.

I spent couple of hours analysing this position, almost all possible lines, including h4 and g4(yes, those are one of the strongest moves), and black always has a fortress draw.

so, you acknowledge about the +400cps fortresses? :)

instead of inviting me to play, I would like to see your full analysis.
