Thanks for this excellent exercise

But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I have 0 for 1.b4 also, but I think I had to go to depth 50.

I think it is interesting that both Komodo and Stockfish prefer the French in answer to e4. Maybe that should be more popular in human games.

The French allows the quick diffusion of center tension by force. This allows Black to cancel some of White's early initiative which shows up as a minutely lower score for White. However, with such limited understanding of very long term consequences, the tiny score difference might have no significance.

If however, the French really does help permanently neutralize some of White's advantage, a human would have to decide if, as Black, he just wants to squash complications and go for a draw. If the human wanted to keep complications and try to win as Black, it may not be a top choice.

Computers are always just min/maxing. Humans have to consider things like current tournament standings, the opponent's rating, the opponent's familiarity with the opening, etc. Since we play imperfectly, picking only the strongest lines isn't always the best method for winning prize money and titles. I therefore don't think computers will radically change the distribution of played openings in human events.

what about 3.Nc3 instead of Nd2 in the French:

[d]rnbqkbnr/ppp2ppp/4p3/3p4/3PP3/2N5/PPP2PPP/R1BQKBNR b KQkq - 0 3

please, do not tell me, Komodo at depth 46 evaluates it higher than +13cps, because in this case there is something wrong with Komodo and SF, rather than with human knowledge the French is very weak.

Is it really weak, or are you being your usual dogmatic self?
