Wuttang Chess

Post by Norbert Raimund Leisner »

Hello,

what is your opinion about Wuttang, originally written from scratch or a derivative of another open-source chess program?

http://www.chess2u.com/t11458-wuttang

What´s abut a license e.g. GNU 3 GPL https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.de.html ?

Best wishes,
Norbert

I just opened one file and it's just a VICE clone, files are .cpp, don't know if he did change something else, just wait to see the improvements

I checked this a few weeks ago together (it was posted in the Chess2U forum) with another one found by accident.
It is based on Vice, but search is different and IIRC it has LMR added,
but I haven't checked if the changes aren't pasted from other sources,
because the author is anonymous anyway. (= no entry in my chronology)

The different search adds 6-7 plies! still it seems at the same level of Vice.

Just for fun here is the other one I found by accident for Norbert at least ;-)
It's the last one in my waiting list from the next to come version of the chronolgy. It is also based on Vice with quite some changes.

I want to add that Vices' author explicitly allows using his code w/o any restriction. Of course there were stupid cases of abuse with 1:1 copies and just renaming and putting a new name on it w/o mentioning Vice.

Code: Select all

Well,

I asked Thibor because of Rapspeed (full name) 2 days ago, but my request remains unanswered until today.

The last source ist mentioned from 17-10-28, but Rapspeed.js current date = 17-11-02

And because of Robert´s posting http://talkchess.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 04&t=64339 in reference to Baislicka CCWiki and other chess communities have a general problem:

Open source projects like Github and SourceForge are (often) released anonymously etc.

What is the return service ("quid pro quo") of CCWiki if someone offers publicly a UCI/WB/Native chess application?

A forum is interactive/free and the admin cannot verify the identities of the "new authors" . Even if a website with legal information (German "Impressum") would exist, this url could be purely fictional.

Another possibility would be that chess software of "unknown" programmers
would be listed separately e.g. CCWiki "nickname engines"

Best wishes,
Norbert

Someone could be developing anonymously because their boss or business partner maybe does not want them to work on other projects (even in their free time) and they want to be discreet about it. That would be a legit reason, imho.
