It is not a beast; it is an extraterrestrial entity.
After this to play Houdini is like to play a child

Hi Fernando, You should have Romi train with you. Use Wiboard (or any GUI that sends a result command in human verses engine games) and play a match against Romi. Switch sides every game. You might be surprised how well Romi will help you train. Then see how you do against Opental.

RomiChess64P3n2 - Opental_x64popcnt : 11.0/21 10-9-2 (1110000100=0=11001111 ) 52% +14
:D

If Houdini, Komodo, SF would win you much quicker, then what's interesting about OpenTal?

What's interesting is in how it approaches the game, not necessarily the overall strength. When I play a top program, I feel like I'm beating myself with stupid moves, and the big engine is just there to collect the win.

But, when playing an opponent like OpenTal, I feel like it's coming out to get me, that it's actually earning the win. Get the difference?

Yes. But it is only an illusion really.

It's not, it uses the same concept of Contempt, the difference between playing solidly, waiting for the opponent to make a mistake, and attacking the opponent, refusing a draw even if you're a piece down, is real.

If Craig David is objectively a better singer (as in wider vocal range, better technique) than Willy Nelson, why listen to Willy?

If Leonardo is objectively a better painter than Piccaso, why bother looking at Picasso's monstrosities?

If Mariah Carey is objectively more beautiful than your wife, why bother...?

I swear, some people on TC aren't chess players, but simply computer nerds.

I suppose you'd scrap your entire engine collection if you got access to Alpha Zero too, huh?

Frustrated regards,
