I rememer this very interesting position about two decades ago because I let ChessMater4000 analyze it that led me to conlude that engines won't get a slight clue about it in many more years.

BTW the position is taken from Capablanca's book "My last lectures"

Houdini solves it quickly:
Troitzky 1928.
Houdini seems to have a special good nullmove verification for such endgames. (Zugzwang arises fully not until move nr. 4.) Maybe it's about LMRs too.
Sting and MateFinder do solve quickly.

Yesterday McBrain was clueless in this position, made some changes and today it is brilliant. Dann - will send you the sources if you could make some exe's - thanks!

These are the things that make projects like McBrain important.
SF is *purely* Elo driven. If it costs 1 Elo to check for 2 level x-ray, then the check will not be made. But Analysts are patient. And we buy big, fast machines. SO 128 cores and an hour to look at a position means that when we want the right answer to a tough nut to crack, that someone can find the answer.

I am a horrible mercinary. I don't care if it is Houdini or Komodo or McBrain or SF or SF_Mate_finder or whatever. I just want the right result. Now, most people are not interested in that. There are a million computers buzzing away at blitz to gain ratings and nobody will ever even bother to look at the games.

I am the opposite of that. Give me time, give me a clever program, and I will turn electricity into information. (P.S. My electric company keeps sending me memos telling me that my electric bill is going through the roof and they can help me to save money). But damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead.

I thank you for McBrain. One more tool that can turn electricity into answers, much to the chagrin of the electric company. But they do have a reprieve. I cannot afford multiple tons of air conditioning to run full tilt during the summer.
