Try SF on the following position:
[d]4k3/8/5P2/4PK2/5N2/4r3/8/8 w - -

It gets the move right, e6, but the position is mate in 42.
The odd thing is that I have the 6 man files, and the evaluation curve is very strange looking:

Well, this is a 6-men position, so the fact that you don't get a mate score from 1 ply on means that either your EGT is not working, or that Stockfish has an extremely weird EGT implementation.
