I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Re: Regarding Talkchess update and features
Hi everyone!
Yeah, we had a heck of a time figuring it out last year.
The situation got critical because apparently the site was being exploited by hacks and causing slowdowns across the server. My host basically said we had to do this, or else.
Sam helped do some research on doing it offline (as opposed to via FTP) and so far it looks like it's doing the trick. My apologies for not writing something giving warning (I authorized doing it late last week and said "we should schedule this", and then it was the weekend. Host figured it was better to do over the weekend - and hey, it worked.
I was able to get it done because some talkchess folks helped donate to cover the costs (see the sticky?). I haven't spoken with my host yet to see what isn't done, but I know there are things I need to do as well on the back end. It might take some time slowly sorting it all out... but I think we are over the biggest hurdle.
I wanted to thank everyone for their patience

Great job on the update!
Also a bit of trivia: this update is occurring exactly 12 years since we first switched to this forum.
Here's to another great 12 years!

True, https should be added. Let's Encrypt is for free and not that hard to set up.Eelco de Groot wrote: ↑Mon May 07, 2018 10:28 am This is probably not final, because it is still http so not safe.
Still, thanks for the update.

Re: Regarding Talkchess update and features
Now that we have to set up all infrastructure again for doing diagrams and games:
Would it be possible to put a link in the header of the tread display page to a JavaScript file (here on the website or elsewhere) that would 'post-process' the page in the browser client to replace certain tag-delimited posting content by a corresponding (interactive) diagram, like here?

Can we also have Themes enabled for viewing options, and links that open in a new window instead of leaving the page.

It seems the 'real name' (full name) field does not even exist at all, after the transformation.
Just look into your own profile - it is not there, which means it is not hidden or something else.
BTW hiding online status seems not to work too. Not that it bothers me much after
I can ignore all 'nuisances' now.

I searched for posts for chess and it came up with 27 entries. Do you know why it does not find all of them ?
