It seems it is independent from the browser type and actually GoogleDrive itself scans all files before downloading and gives
a false positive here, because FreeChess uses UPack for compression. (e.g. Feuerstein also uses a compression scheme and
is notorious for this kind of problems)
(This is a bit strange though, because GoogleDrive already scans files when uploading them IIRC - so I wonder how it
could be uploaded in the first place)

I see no direct way to prevent this, except using a different download space, or a workaround with unpacking Freechess.
In a first attempt I found at least a trial version for extracting UPack compressed files, but I did not check if it works.

Edit: Google is really funny - I can upload Freechess to my GoogleDrive but I cannot download it afterwards

which will not cause a false virus alarm, but until now you have not exchanged them?

I don't want it to sit forever now in my googledrive...
