Chessbase player search

Post by aceplayer »

I just recently found out that Chessbase automatically capitalizes the first letter in the name you search for. Even if the capitalization is incorrect. It will make van Bruehl Van Bruehl. A long time ago Chessbase made this decision, I assume, to make things simpler for themselves.

However, this does result in making Chessbase searches more Internet-player-unfriendly. thechessmaster would have to be Thechessmaster. This could easily be fixed by making the autocapitalization optional. I emailed Chessbase about this, I thought I was having an issue with Windows autocorrect feature and I was very confused. But they never got back to me. This is a sign that they are aware of the problem.

What was the reason behind Chessbase's decision? Are there any instances where capitalization will be key in the search results you obtain? There must have been some talk back then when this was implemented.
