Is there any way to watch this live?
Found a few links, but got either 'forbidden page' or a stationary chess board with no games to select.

Did find a youtube video from a visitor. Seemed archaic and odd watching the human intervention of operators physically moving pieces on a real board. I guess when time is short the operator could affect the outcome by being faster or slower than their 'opponent'. Still tradition....

EDIT: on the board click -vs- at the top and select round 1. Nice.

Which version of Leela is running? Has hardware for both Leela and Komodo been confirmed ?

the "8 V100s" thing that sounds like a joke is true, per https://blog.lczero.org/2018/07/13/wccc-more/. not sure if that's the final setup though. no idea what komodo's using.

the game is being broadcast, but the site's changed or isn't setup properly...click the main link (or this one if it's not the same) view.livechesscloud.com/7c104c94-c119-441e-a444-b0f22a1880d0 & then click the top bar; the rounds are clickable but it's at 7 -- round 1 board 1 is K-Lc0

it says Leela lost the game against Komodo now. how can it lose if it is won or draw ? :) :) :D

It seems something is wrong with GUI that they transmit with.. I hope they fix it...

It was dead draw long time in the endgame. I guess Leela lost on time, due to the need of a human operator, they have a physical board.

It was this position, a dead draw one:
[d]8/8/8/KR6/p3k3/P7/2b5/8 w - - 0 1

Leela's operator was having problems with time and he was running out of time, so he offered a draw 2 moves before the end i think, but Komodo's operator didn't accept(!! really very bad Chess sportsmanship) and he couldn't keep up with executing the moves so he run out of time so 0-1.

So this loss for Leela was because her operator wasn't good enough by playing the moves on a "dead draw" position. This is not Chess of course. They should have accepted the draw in this kind of dead position but it's ok since it's inside the rules of course.
After his son's birth they've asked him:
"Is it a boy or girl?"
YES! He replied.....

Either the result is reported wrong, or it lost on time in a dead draw 6men endgame (with an exchange up).
(It can be that the operator(s) didn't succeed to apply operator time good enough into setting up the time control)

Re: how will Leela fare at the WCCC?

Post by frankp »

Bizarre that humans can affect the result, particularly in such a position.
Still Kommodo is commercial, so I guess it needs the title to demonstrate it is the best program.

Very impressive :-(
They must be very proud.

(Do not misunderstand. I am not suggested they cheated, just not great sportsmanship.)
