https://sourceforge.net/projects/jose-chess/ was designed for Intel and PowerPC Mac, requires JRE 1.4 or later
GUI is UCI/XBoard compatible, contains Toga and Spike

I was unable to click on the source forge links with safari. It said the pages are not safe.
But I downloaded the Jose and scid files on my pc , put .dgm files on an usb stick and started it on the iMac.
It installed the two programs. What means dmg ? Kind of zip ??

I use a Macbook pro and use Parrallels to run windows in parallel to OSX (for UCI engines and Arena) and a Dos emulator for for Dos Chess programs (can be run directly within OS X).

Runs really well and compensates for the relative lack of Mac chess software.

Especially if you care more about fun than speed/strength.

I don't think that would work on a PowerPC, unless you had a Windows version for that architecture. Virtual machines cannot emulate other architectures.

I am not familiar with Apple software at all. Does the g4 also run a kind of Linux/Unix? If so, you could simply install XBoard there from source.

The machine has 700 MHz and 1 GB RAM and Mac OS X 10.5.8
You may already own an app, which should run well on your "new" PowerPC Mac: Shredder Classic 4 :D . It only needs Java runtime to be installed.

Have fun with your new toy,

glaurung worked very good for me. where can i download uci engines compiled for mac ?

meanwhile i succesfully cleaned the pro keyboard by disassembling all keys and putting them back into place.
over the years lots of dirt was collected in the keyboard.
