Ares GB - Happy Birthday Graham Banks

Post by CRoberson »

Here is a new toy http://aigames.net/AresChess1-005.2.html

The new toy is: Ares-GB. The changes are all inspired by the games I've seen in Graham's tournaments. There were nearly 200 test versions to get to this. The test name was Ares1-005-2-1N400P300. Its performance is a bit confusing: it scored much better vs SOS and slightly worse against Anmon.

Engine Score
1: Ares1-005-2-1-64adv 35.0/100 ···················································
2: SOS 5.1 for Arena 33.0/50 ==10111=1111000=101011=0=10=1==11011=11=1=1=01=111
3: AnMon 5.75 32.0/50 =01=000111010=00=1101=0111011=1=011110=11111=1111=

Ares1-005-2-1-64adv - AnMon 5.75 : 18.0/50 13-27-10 (=10=111000101=11=0010=1000100=0=100001=00000=0000=) 36% -100
Ares1-005-2-1-64adv - SOS 5.1 for Arena : 17.0/50 10-26-14 (==01000=0000111=010100=1=01=0==00100=00=0=0=10=000) 34% -115

1: Ares1-005-2-1N400P300-64adv 93.0/200 ·····································································································
2: AnMon 5.75 70.0/100 0=01010101111==111111111==11101111100101=0010111011=101==11==1010011=1011101101111110010111101111111
3: SOS 5.1 for Arena 37.0/100 0=0010=110=111000101=10100000011000===00110010100011110=00000==010010=0111000100=00000=1=000=10=0100

Ares1-005-2-1N400P300-64adv - AnMon 5.75 : 30.0/100 24-64-12 (1=10101010000==000000000==00010000011010=1101000100=010==00==0101100=0100010010000001101000010000000) 30% -147
Ares1-005-2-1N400P300-64adv - SOS 5.1 for Arena : 63.0/100 55-29-16 (1=1101=001=000111010=01011111100111===11001101011100001=11111==101101=1000111011=11111=0=111=01=1011) 63% +92

You can see my confusion: it lost 47 points vs Anmon but gained 207 points to SOS. The TC was G/30sec. It seems that SOS has a problem with that type of TC: it ran out of time in some games that could have been drawn, so we might guess that Ares-GB only gained 100 on SOS then the 47 loss to AnMon makes it +53 over the previous.

Happy Birthday.

This version is a real kinghunter!
Should be challenging for humans to play against.

What is the difference between the 3 versions on the website, 1.005.2, 1.005.2.1 and GB? Which one should we use?

They're supposed to be progressively stronger.
