Chess for Android and Electronic ChessBoards

Chess for Android now proudly supports the following beautiful electronic chessboards:

• DGT boards over classic bluetooth or USB (including RS232)
• Certabo boards over USB
• Millennium boards over BLE or classic bluetooth (C-module)

In addition, my games Checkers and Reversi for Android have been updated with full game navigation (using the same look as Chess for Android) and game export to the clipboard or via sharing (using PDN for checkers, and a PGN flavor for Reversi).

Well done Aart !!

Now the only thing we need are new engines with new approaches.
Not those who begin with fruit or Stockfish sources, but with new ideas.

IMO for chess against normal humans, Shannon type b or type c programs make more sense.

We don’t need yet another Stockfish clone or another elo 3000+ program.

We would like to see Mchess being uci,
CSTAL being uci,
Mephisto III being uci.

Shannon B and C strategy is the field that is interesting.

I hoped the neural nets would make a new approach but it perverted again into the faster faster higher higher approach.
So the same bullshit like Stockfish.
People are only interested in faster hardware and not in better chess.
They quantify chess instead of qualifying it.

Unlike the other boards, the Certabo board does not necessarily come with chess pieces. Instead, a set of 34 chips is provided, which can be attached to the bottom of pieces in any chess set (which means that, unlike the other board, the GUI must first match newly attached chips with the right pieces).



Since I did not have a spare chess set for this purpose, I decided to print a new chess set using a 3D printer (courtesy my brother-in-law Gerard Harbers).

On a side note, this would be an awesome port to the IOS platform. Chess for IOS, I would not use it as I prefer Android. Yet it still would make a great port. Thanks again Aart!

Version 5.9 of Chess for Android is now rolling out on Google Play.
New features:

• Configurable tags for PGN export (player, ELO, event)
• Ability to offer draw or resign (click king twice to enter menu)
• Support for Certabo electronic chessboards

Crazy Stone, the Go program of Rémi Coulom, simulates go players of all strength. It is done by training the network with games of players of different strength. This can easily be done in chess as well, it should be even possible to train with games of single players.So hopefully there will be nets available in the future of ELO 2000 players, Gambit players or Bobby Fischer.

You believe it will qualify chess ? We will see. I made the experience that I get dozens of responses when posting a result with a list of elos, while I get no responses when posting a chess game .
It seems people discuss more about the lists and elos and hardware increases instead of discussing the chess content the statistics were made of.

I am sure some will try it. There where several attempts to simulate Grandmasters with more or less success in the past. We are at the very beginning of serious NN AI in chess. I am sure NN will be able to do this in the future.
