@WuShock,

I noticed that too, and I tried compiling it without all the "var" options and it worked to restore that slot. I upload it to zippyshare here in case you or anyone wants it. (This is just the POPCNT version for windows x64)

New Windows binaries by by both Dann Corbit and John Stanback were added just a few minutes ago. Much appreciation and thanks to Lucas Monge, Dan Corbitt, John Stanback and Alan Cooper ( Pi Releases, note Alan is currently on Holiday) for their continued support for both McCain and now Honey as well.

https://github.com/MichaelB7/Stockfish/ ... s/tag/XPro

My plans is to offer updates to both versions when there is a justifiable reason. Currently back to work on MCCain, in MCCain next release it will also have the latest updates form Current _Dev-Stockfish, the new scoring percent out evaluation output that Honey Xpro has, and will expand the book selection tp 4 books - why 4 books? Also testing a few more hands-on changes by me and others.

Book #1 - very focused book that you want the engine to use to start the game - may be player based or opening based - it's your choice. 2nd book should be a wider book than book #1 with additional opening you would like the engine too persue if book #1 is out book moves, the 3rd book could be a NN type polyglot book , such the one offered by Thomas Zipproth. The 4 book is typically your biggest book that encompanses all variations once the engine is done with books 1, 2, and 3 and you would typically set this to best for sure. I see the big Cerebellum book as ideal for the fourth book, but NOT as the primary book. Books 1 and 2 are typically your own books that one would not share with others , books that you would use for your correspondence games.

After making most of the updates for McCain over the last few days ( Github not yet updated ;>)), It appears it it may have leaped frog back over Honey ( Honey was beating McCain-X3 ) , it is certainly much more competitive.

The maiden release of Honey-XPro, a UCI chess playing engine derived from McCain (MichaelB7), Stockfish, SugaR (Marco Zerbinati) and Glaurung 2.1

Honey-Xpro is named in honor of my paternal grandmother, Honey (née Sullivan) Byrne and she was, without a doubt, the sweetest person I have ever known. So I hope you find this chess engine as sweet as she was. Her grandfather, John J Sullivan , immigrated to the United States from Ireland around 1860 when he was about 20 years old, settling in as coal miner in the Scranton PA area. At the age of 40, he graduated from University of Maryland Medical School as an MD, returning to Olyphant PA to practice medicine for the next 47 years, until his death in 1927. HIs son and Honey's father , John J Sullivan, Jr., who also became a doctor and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School at the turn of the century.

Honey-XPro has a new score output option , where the user can elect to have the score outputed in a expected score percentage. When using in chess GUI such as xBoard, you must also check the xBoard option , otherwise the score percentages will be displayed as decimals. This was derived from reversed engineering Lc0 conversion function of win percentage to centipawns and then tailoring it specifically to Honey's centipawns evaluation. It is strictly a conversion, the engine itself is not using the score percentage. See uci.cpp for the formula - it could easily be transferable to any chess engine.

Details, source, binaries and books (scroll to the bottom for binaries and books)
https://github.com/MichaelB7/Stockfish/ ... s/tag/XPro

Below were games played today in the monthly HGM tourney using the scoring % output ( with 0% indicates losing without a doubt, 50.00 indicates a drawish position and 100% indicates certain win) ( scores like 1000.05 - is xboard output for mate-in-5). The most interesting game played was against LeelaRB, 5th game down. The McBrain name below is just my user name - it was Honey-XPro playing.

I hope you are able to enjoy using Honey-XPro as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

I have it running fine on F15 , but curious about Book #1 . There are boxes to enter pathway for Books #2 and #3 , but not for #1 ?

Thanks for all your efforts .....

Tom G
Hi Tom,

I will look into this - it should be pathway selectable...

Regards,

Mike

is it possible to add support for large pages? I tried to but it seems a bit different than adding it for stockfish i got a bunch of errors. Would be great! :) And cool engine, being able to use 3 books is awesome.
It's possible - but somebody will need to submit me a PR with the recommended code changes since my developing platform is macOS and mcODS does not currently support large pages.

What does large pages do for SF ( that is, what is the impact), I'm assuming it's faster? Do you have any data that shows the difference? ( Supporting why the effort to implement would be worth it?)

Hi Mike,

interestingly, for stockfish it's really just as easy as swiping a few files from brainfish like tt.cpp, tt.h, and a couple more possibly (i have a txt file for adding it to stockfish - and last i checked it still is the same process, which was maybe a couple weeks ago)

But yea, simply swiping the files with brainfish's didn't work for honey-xpro which makes sense considering it seems quite a bit different from normal stockfish than brainfish. And I got a bunch of errors... and I'm not a programmer so I have no idea with most of the errors mean. Though I have learned one or two from trial and error when compiling.

I browsed around a bit to find some creditable data about the speedup of large pages on Chiron and Houdini and also included a couple pics showing the speedup of brainfish without and with large pages.

"Using large pages can speedup hash table access and thus increase Chiron speed by up to 15%. The larger the hash table you use the more the speedup will be." - Chiron author -

Source: https://www.chironchess.com/support/lar ... ws-7vista/

"Houdini Pro will use so-called large memory pages if they are provided by the operating system. Depending on the hash table size the speed gain may be between 5% and 15%. For 2048 MB hash the speed improvement from using Large Pages is about 6%. The impact grows when the size of the Hash Memory becomes larger; repeating the same benchmark with 8192 MB of hash memory yields a speed increase from Large Pages of nearly 10%" -Houdini author-

Source: http://www.cruxis.com/chess/manual/inde ... ersion.htm

Here are a couple pictures showing the speedup of large pages with brainfish on my PC using 4096 MB of hash. (8 core/16 thread AMD Ryzen 1700 @ 3.7 GHz)

After making most of the updates for McCain over the last few days ( Github not yet updated ;>)), It appears it it may have leaped frog back over Honey ( Honey was beating McCain-X3 ) , it is certainly much more competitive.
Oh, I wrongly assumed Honey was the successor of McCain, so what engine should I be using? The latest release of either one? Isn't it possible to consolidate the best of Honey and McCain in a single engine?
Make someone happy today.

Right now use Honey. When I release McCain , it will be stronger.
