The problem is Stockfish maintainers seem to be trigger happy with any microscopic elo gainer heuristic patch, but when it comes to bug fixes, that pr sits there for weeks.

The problem is that people often disagree what constitutes a bug (is showing a +5 score in a draw position a bug?). Moreover it is not always clear if a patch really fixed a bug (verifying the effect on a few specific positions may be insufficiently convincing).
Ideas=science. Simplification=engineering.
Without ideas there is nothing to simplify.

Yes but I feel like bug fixes should have the highest priority, sort them out before moving on to commit elo gainer patches.
