Engine playing from database

Post by artalt »

Is there on Earth a chess engine or program making moves or playing from a chess games database in certain positions?

Isn't that what all engines do, when they are using their opening book?

The opening book is the database. You cannot play from a database when you are in a position that doesn't occur in the database.

What you describe is not practically possible due to the sheer number of gamestates/positions.

Or to put it another way, if it was practically possible, chess would be solved. And it is.... for 7 pieces or less ;).
