It would be awesome if it was Houdini 7!

I guess they will choose Fire.
Ethereal is a little stronger, but open source.
Xiphos is a hair weaker, but open source.
All the stronger engines are either NN or commercial.
Fizbo is 50 Elo weaker than Fire.

If they choose an open source engine, it is hard to compete with free (why will I pay $75 instead of running make?).
It is, of course, possible that Ethereal or Xiphos will go closed source in order to go commercial.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

That with Rajlich as Fritz author was a joke anyway.
Either he couldn't reach more Elo from Rybka 4.1 anymore,
or he didn't want to :P , or it wasn't Rajlich at all.

CEGT Rating:
Rybka 4.0 3059
Rybka 4.1 3079

Fritz 15 3105 +26 Elo to Ry 4.1 (in two Years)
Fritz 16 3129 +24 Elo to Fr 15 (also in two Years)

Maybe he missed Larry's input.
Still, that is not a bad increase in Elo for one guy working by himself.

Fizbo is discontinued.

Vas fixed all the bugs of Rybka 4.0 for Rybka 4.1, but that improved its strength, and he wanted a bugfix release at the same strength, so he lobotomized Rybka 4.1 on purpose to make it play at the level of Rybka 4.0. Apparently he failed at that despite his efforts, but it's possible Fritz 15 was nothing but Rybka 4.1 without the lobotomy.

I have never liked Fire, either it plays Houdini's moves or worse ones, so it's not an engine you have a reason to use, unless you don't have Houdini.

Ethereal or Xiphos don't need to become closed source to go commercial, Fat Fritz is open source commercial.

If you or somebody actually has it, it will be very easy to tell what the CPU version is. Just run some tests. If you like PM me for the testing software.
