Does anyone still have these ancient engines?
Bringer 1.4 and/or Lamb Chop 7.10?
I'm finding really old engines interesting lately.

About Bringer, yeah I have the earlier version 1.7 too, but according to some opinions (here one: http://www.chess2u.com/t8750-der-bringer-1-4), version 1.4 was especially great.

I had already 10.87 (bought with WB Edition 2 in 2001) and 10.99.

(Jon has saved 10.88 as 7.10; 7.10 was released either late 1998 or in 1999)
A blast from the real past below ;-)

BTW if someone needs this info, it saves the ini file, at least here on WIN7, in the root folder of C:\Windows.tmokonen wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 7:15 am I have uploaded my Bringer collection, which includes version 1.4

Re: Searching for ANCIENT Engines: Bringer 1.4 and Lamb Chop 7.10
Well, people do tend to have and post these kinds of opinions. As the one, who is probably the one person on earth who has viewed the second most games of Bringer, I can't confirm this suspicion. Bringer never was too human-like, but it was strong at its time. To the contrary I believe that its strength must have been its search. There were some versions back then, that behaved like modern engines with an inbelieably low branching factor, so Gerrit probably had some cool search tricks for then standards. And the improvement was very steady, he probably had some good testing set-up. He never published a version without improvements.BrendanJNorman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 17, 2019 5:26 am About Bringer, yeah I have the earlier version 1.7 too, but according to some opinions (here one: http://www.chess2u.com/t8750-der-bringer-1-4), version 1.4 was especially great.
I used to love Gromit 2.1, and thought that it was very human-like. So I was lured into buying Fritz17 because of the engine, that didn't impress me much.
