How long until your engine finds this mate in 36?

I think this is another one of those that is a lot easier for a human than a machine. I spotted the key move instantly and so will most of you.
But your engine might struggle to find it.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

it's not a mate in 36.

Thanks for the interesting update. I will have to restudy the position now

I finally got a mate in 32 on my phone (Kirin 710) using the same engine (8 threads, 2gb hash, 5men syzygy):

Is the issue in this problem for engines all the knight promotions?

Do engines like Stockfish relegate these moves down to the bottom of the move ordering or otherwise limit them when a queen promotion is possible?

I know Rybka for instance ignored at least some underpromotions.

Maybe a variant of Stockfish or another related engine where underpromotions are given a "boost" somehow might be better at solving these!
(Probably a UCI paramter you can select)

Would love to know if any analysis of this problem is available, such as from the original publication of the problem. I had a quick look on google
using the fen but couldn't find anything. For example why h8=Q doesn't work.
