I just wanted to point out, that the difficulties can't be as big as e.g. Thorsten keeps telling us, if everybody having had some problems for a little while, has found ways to log in again now.
...
But using a VPN is not 100% functionality guaranteed.
e.g. You cannot use further continuing links, you end up on the proxy page again.
Diagrams and games (pgn tags) are also not displayed.
(not even the epd lines that are under the diagram would be)
So let's hope it soon will not be necessary to use VPNs anymore to log in to CCC.
What I wanted to say was, new servers, new names and or new hosts won't change the problems of security by themselves alone, will they?
Peter.

Hi all,

I'm still blocked from France.
If this is a provider issue, i'd be glad to offer one of my OVH server to run the talkchess phpbb instance if needed.

Not at all.
Talkchess is the premier English speaking computer chess forum and I hope that it stays that way.

Thank you, Werner, but I was just kidding, I didn't have any problems to log in at all with my Austrian provider till now.

I just wanted to point out, that the difficulties can't be as big as e.g. Thorsten keeps telling us, if everybody having had some problems for a little while, has found ways to log in again now.
Of course I wouldn't mind, if the servers should be changed, but do you really think that to be the only way to keep off hackers? And would it be fully save by only migrating the forum, if security- settings wouldn't be better there then too?
A forum where a big group of members can only access by using vpn changes is not public.
Others who want to register for the first time have no clue why the area is FORBIDDEN and will not change the vpn or have a chance to register.
Such a forum is not public anymore.
This is completely against the idea to give the computerchess community a place.

A computerchess forum with blocked ips for many foreigners is not public and therefore we should migrate it.

To a place that IS public.

Exactly. The forum we founded to be a public forum for the computerchess community ends here. It is not workable anymore.
It’s time to say good bye to the host.
Many thanks for the years. But in the future we will migrate the forum to another place that is available for the public and everything works.

It seems to me mclane from Germany has another opinion.
What is not a surprise to me.

Blocked from the Netherlands too. Tried several ISPs to no avail so suspect region blocking. Acessing the forum with an VPN to the US now.
This post may either be cause or result of misunderstandings.

With regional IP block, you sure you are preventing more hackers than normal users? :D
