I saw Nakamura practicing vs Komodo on PlayKomodo Chess.com just before he played Vs Carlsen, Naka was probably testing different Openings and even if he lost 10 to 0 versus Komodo he got the advantage of testing and learning new variations to his Opening repertoire.
PS: There are lots of strong Blitz players around the World like Dubob whose Standard rating is below 2700
