How good is your engine?

If your engine can't solve this problem in less of two minutes, throw it away.
Of those tested by me, only nine engines (among them my modest engine) managed to find the key to the problem. Stockfish and Lc0 are not on the list.

You're right. I don't think any UCI engine can handle this correctly. It seems White should resign, but UCI engines can't do that. :wink:

Yeah, despite knowing white was winning I couldn't find it with any of my methods.

I consider it the hardest chess puzzle in all of chess, at least, I was able to find the key moves in all the others, but not this one.

In that thread Uri Blass reveals that Gothmog is one of the engines that "get it":

The objective is to get the pawn to become queen while preventing the knight from taking it.

Some arbitrarily chose position is not suitable do decide about an engine is good or not.
In the evaluation of every engine there are "dark stains".
So only engine-engine matches can show the real power of engines.

Capablanca was a genius for playing game endings and was also a Chess World Champion.
The problem I left on this topic was solved by Tahl and he was also the Chess World Champion.
So a good engine is one that can solve a problem and also be a Champion in engine vs engine match.
