Larry Kaufman is not included in the last rating list. I wonder if Larry isn' t on the new list because he has ended his active shogi career?

Re: Larry Kaufman
It's more like the Pandemic has ended it. My last rated event was in early 2019, then I was planning to play in the 2020 US Championship which was cancelled due to COVID, and it looks like there won't be one this year for the same reason. After two years you fall off the list. The two year rule should be extended by the length of the Pandemic in my opinion. If we have a US Championship late this year or in 2022 I can probably participate.mehmet123 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 6:56 pm Larry Kaufman is not included in the last rating list. Those who say 22 games less should not forget that the world chess champion is determined by 12 games.

Re: Larry Kaufman
Thanks. Other than sample size, I'm not sure what to attribute it to, but there are some indications that our MP scheme scales a bit better on many cores/threads than SF, so perhaps this is an explanation. We have reports of good results in online engine competition for Dragon on 32 cores against mostly Stockfish 13 (or newer) opposition, so this at least is consistent.mehmet123 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 8:49 pm Larry has added another success to his career.

Congrats to the Komodo TEam , well done. For entertainment value, small number of games swiss tournaments for computers are much more entertaining. Anything can happen. Hope to see more of themlkaufman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 2:18 amThanks. True revolutions come from search. Evaluation produces produces linear improvements, like tweaky inline assembly speedups and things of that nature.lkaufman wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 2:18 amThanks. Giant piles of cores are coming. Those who scale best will rule.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I do not agree that evaluation produces linear improvements.Dann Corbit wrote: ↑Sat Apr 17, 2021 9:01 amTrue revolutions come from search. It is depdenent on the evaluation change.
There are changes that scale well and give more than linear improvement and also changes that help only at blitz so clearly less than linear improvement.
For example if you change the evaluation to teach your engine to win won positions in blitz then you may become better in blitz but not at long time control when you can without the smart evaluation thanks to search.
