Quantity of pieces on board in mate position, indicator for aggressive chess!

Post by Frank Quisinsky »

Hi there,

we have the advantage that computer chess matches can ended with mate without using resign parameters by engine or GUI.

A good indicator for aggressive chess engines can be:
How many pieces are on board in mate end position.

So, if we have for engine x 1.000 1:0 games and for engine y 500 1.0 games we can build the average from "pieces on board with mate endposition". Sure, the results will be around the same if we are looking for quantity of short won / lost games. We can looking for move average too. More exactly will be "Pieces on board".

Same for the lost games:
A good indicator for king safty if engines have a higher quantity of pieces on board in mate position.

The problem is ...
We haven't a tool for it.

Normaly a chess GUI should give us interesting statistics.
With stronger and stronger engines much more important to have it.
A pity that I am not longer working with Martin Blume.

Next one:
We have the tool joined!
Joined can give us quanity of stalemate, quantity of castlings, promotion to queen, rook, bishop, knight and so one.
Joined can't give us the information for white and black, that's bad.

I am looking often in such statistics.
Average of pawn moves below move 40, below move 50 of games ...
A good indicator for an aggressive playing strength.

It's a lot of work to find out such things with databases and all in hand working.

Again ...
We need much more interesting possibilities for statistics for our own understandings in chess.

Now we are in the year 2020 and have different tools only.
Not an own GUI for it.

What we have are more and more Stockfish compiles nobody can used.
Because in one week x newer Stockfish compiles are available.

I think programming parts to the topic "statistic" can be very helpful and can be a nice event for the future.

Best
Frank
