Texel, Nemorino, Chiron questions!

Post by Frank Quisinsky » Tue Sep 08, 2020 9:24 am

Hi there,

Texel:
Here we have version 1.07 and version 1.08 a13
The question is: Will be in the near future a newer release available or is 1.08 a13 the last version!
Never I am sure in testing Texel with the versions!

Chiron:
A newer version as v4 plays IGT-2018
It would be great if this version will be available or perhaps a newer version!

Nemorino:
A long time v5.8 (from end of the year 2018) was available.
The last official version is v5.0.
Same situation I wrote before to Texel.
Never I am sure in testing ... should I use v5.8 or v5.0!

All of this engines have a nice style and a high playing strength.
Hope that the programmers find this thread, I dislike to asked per E-Mail.

Thanks and ...
Have a nice week!

Best
Frank

Hello Frank,
Nemorino is still there and development is steady but very slow. In the meanwhile version count has increased to 5.42 on the master branch (which is about 30 Elo stronger than 5.0) but I did not provide binary releases.
The last weeks I integrated NNUE, which gave a 200 Elo improvement with nets from stockfish (code available in nnue branch). I'm currently trying to understand the learning code and maybe create an own net for Nemorino. If this is done I will release it as Nemorino 6.
And then I have to think if and how to continue. I don't think I will continue working on the classic evaluation function knowing that the NNUE version is so much stronger. And I'm also not sure if I really want to enter into this NN business - I don't really like the increased CPU/GPU consumption / intellectual effort ratio.

Hi,

good news!

I think a lot of programmers are working on NNUE ideas.
I wish me that not all of TOP-programs will use NNUE but maybe I am to antiquated / old fashioned.

I am 53 years old and not 25.
So for different things I need a bit more time as others.
Yesterday I got the comment from my wife, so I have to search more the middle ground.
The wife is here the admiral, you know!

:-)

If you are not ready end of the year 2020, could you added a "beta" binary for fast Intel systems.
I must have your engine in the tournament with a newer version!
Nemorino plays in FCP Tourney-2020 a lot of nice games and have strengths in tactical positions.
Not so speculative Fizbo is playing the tourney but for the strength Nemorino 5 have absolutely speculative also.
This produced nice games for looking!

The tournament I will start January 2021.

Good luck with your development and thanks for your engine and fast answer!

Best
Frank
