This behavior should be fixed in v1.2.1. Seer should now play the shortest path to mate. This release also resolves a minor race condition that could have mangled the best move output, though likely never would have actually happened in practice.

Thank you ! Already in test. Will be a double test. Seer 1.2 & Seer 1.2.1 vs. Deep Sjeng c't 2010. I'm curious to see the differences in game and result.

Thanks for testing! I'll be curious to see whether the gains I observed in self play testing carry over to playing strength against other engines.

Also I heard that Seer has been invited to TCEC. If true, then Congratulations

Here it is. :)

Don't forget do download the weight file "save.bin" and enter the full path to the uci options.

Seer 1.2.1 started for CEGT 40/20: https://cegt.forumieren.com/f4-cegt-40-20-coordination; 2961 after 300 games!
congrats!
As mentioned already: Installing on Arena is a pain, as engine crashes during install process (path to save.bin has to be set later during configuration process). I was forced to make the same paths as in the default engine settings:
Seer121\
train\model\save.bin

Thanks for testing! That's odd. Presumably, Arena issues "go" before allowing UCI options to be set? Rather than quitting the engine if the weights file provided incorrect, I could just have Seer refuse to start the search while still printing the error message. I'll do some testing with Arena before the next release.

Hi Werner,

I did not encounter that problem. After loading the engine I can open it and change the weights file after which everything is fine.

Sorry, my fault - I tried once more and then I saw Arena did load the engine as wb engine. After changing to uci all works ok.
