Rasmus,

that is right ... possible after all I know but to complicated!
I believe Switzerland is possible but expensive.

I will send Andreas from Hostix in the evening a mail.
Not say that Hostix is a solution but after all I know Andreas have a lot of knowledge in such questions.

I have a feeling that you are totally wrong. Of course the GDPR doesn't apply just to commercial projects.

Article 45 DSGVO ...
Switzerland, Canada different others!
I am not the expert here!

Again, I wrote this yesterday.

I think the first step is to collect for a new forum.
The second step is give professionals an order for a new forum.

"Sam, as admin, can do more, but in the current situation his technical powers are limited to configuring the forum software. He doesn't have the passwords for access to the server to create or update the forum scripts because of the way we are hosted (by ChessUSA). He is a volunteer for that job, and he cannot be expected to rent a server for TalkChess and pay for that."

...

1.
Without the passwords the situation isn't good, PHP database is most important!
And without to changed important things the forum is sooner or later dead.
To find a solution is in such a case really important.

2.
We can't await that the situation will be better after all what I read to the topic.

3.
Question for yourself:
It is possible for you to freeze the forum if a new forum is ready for take-off?
I think the server from ChessUSA is not the right place after all.

The idea:

1.
To make a backup from PHP database later if possible!

2.
A new forum with a link to this forum in the meantime.

Do you know which PHP version the server used?
Certainly older as 5.6?

What I can't understand is:
The main-password can give the admin from ChessUSA!
If not possible it's time to find a solution.
1. I have no interest whatsoever in trying to start a new forum because it is tilting at windmills without funding.
2. I simply cannot understand what it is about the thread that bothers you.
There is nothing offensive, there is nothing in violation of the charter, it serves a useful purpose.
Taking ideas is not a vice, it is a virtue. We have another word for this. It is called learning.
But sharing ideas is an even greater virtue. We have another word for this. It is called teaching.

I'm not motivated to inform you about GDPR basics, especially not after such a snarky posting.

Volker,

the translation for the "About me" site is not from myself.
The German text is from myself.

The translation is from a friend of the family, an American.

Dann,

I think so.
That's the reason that since Jul. 2020 the message "Polish users ..." is in front of the site.

I gave an explanation why I can't accept such a message over a long time!

Now, if the admins have the opinion the situation is wonderful ... the situation is wonderful.

I can TalkChess not support any longer!
I will give my sorry for my messages and wish all the readers a nice evening!

Best
Frank

I happen to know someone who knows someone who... and that guy knows about GDPR.

There are no upload-filter requirements yet. Its actually being discussed at the highest European court.
So even if it will be introduced, then; no, you won't get a fine of 2 million euro. Those fines are limited to a percentage of your income.
And, of course, you would be warned first. And since we at talkchess have really fine moderators (I'm serious about that), a nasty posting would not survive very long anyway.

Wrong. Up to 20 million EUR or 4% of your annual revenue - whichever is higher. Read the GDPR, it's right on their website! Obviously, that is only the upper limit and not the likely actual fine. That's why I wrote "theoretically". But a few thousand EUR would be realistic here. Nothing that would ruin you, but pretty nasty nevertheless.

GDPR is not about postings, but process compliance. Upload filters, which will come, are not about removing a single copyright violating post, but about the duty to make sure it cannot happen again.
