Arasan20 testsuite VS 4 top solvers

Post by Vinvin » Mon Jan 04, 2021 11:37 pm

The 4 top solvers are : Crystal-291220, SugaR.AI.ICCF.1.00, ShashChess15.1 and Bluefish-12-W

First, I ran a fast pass to discard all "easy" positions.
I reran the rest of the positions during 120 seconds with 1 core (old i7-4 GHz).

Here are the timings for positions that requires more than 20 seconds average for the 4 engines (4 columns with time in seconds).
The list is sort on the field "number of engines who found" first, then sort on average time.
- 15 positions found by the 4 engines.
- 14 positions found by only 3 engines.
- 11 positions found by only 2 engines.
- 6 positions found by only 1 engine.
- 8 positions not found by the 4 engines. There are probably erroneous test positions there.

Thanks Vinvin for testing this.

But, who get you Bluefish 12 W (Windows)?

I found on Githup only Honey-12 for AMD from 3 Sep 2020
and Honey-12-R1 from 3 Oct 2020
(what means R1? Release Candidate 1 ?, but 1 month later than Honey-12??)

And later only App's for Android.

Who can i get Honey-12 W / Bluefish-12 W

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info on these engines.
Arasan tests 116, 132, 153, are tough moves for humans and engines alike
But arasan 173 solved by current SF dev in less than 5 seconds in my very slow machine.

Re: Arasan20 testsuite VS 4 top solvers

Post by Uri Blass » Tue Jan 05, 2021 7:33 am

116 is easy to solve by sting and I guess that it is also easy for GM's.

I remember this position and I believe that avoiding the previous move was a harder test position.
I do not understand the decision to test only stockfish clones and not to test sting-sf-25 that may be the best chess solver(not sure about it)

I also would like to see people testing sting-sf-25 in games.
I do not like the fact that stockfish never lose at long time control in mark young's games and I think that it is better to use for analysis an engine that lose 40-10 against stockfish but win 2 games and not an engine that lose 26-24 against stockfish and get 48 draws.

Maybe sting can be the engine that win 2 games against stockfish and lose 40-10 because it see things that stockfish does not but I did not test it and I think that it is better if testers test it in games.

Re: Arasan20 testsuite VS 4 top solvers

Post by Uri Blass » Tue Jan 05, 2021 9:36 am

I looked at the history
position 116 is the position I posted here

I am surprised by the little progress that chess engines made in this position because already in 2011 many programs could solve it

Zappa on a single core needed less than an hour to solve it even with 1 core at that time and I find that latest stockfish developement version has huge problems and cannot see the solution even after an hour with 1 core today.
